Internet in North Cyprus
Where there once were few companies that provided internet services in Northern Cyprus the
field has now grown. Depending on where you live there are different options available to you.
Although Northern Cyprus can be divided into many regions in truth there is one major obstacle
in terms of communication. The Kyrenia Mountain range or as it is sometime known the Five finger
Mountain range which extends from Northern Cyprus’s east coast to its west coast. This has been
a hindrance in plans both wired and wireless to provide connections to the internet.
As of yet no one has laid down coaxial cable thus making the only wired connection to the
internet via the phone company. This does have its draw backs as you are constrained to dial up
speeds. For those lucky enough to have a land line they will be able to connect to the internet
by using ISP’s that provide dial up services for a monthly fee.
Recently the local North Cyprus P.T.T. (Post, Telephone, and Telegraph) has been upgrading its
network to provide better service and the much needed new landlines for new houses. Most people
have not really missed the landline since they have grown accustomed to using cell phones. Still
there are certain areas such as the internet and long distance calls where a landline would be
more useful. For those interested in aquiring a mobile you will be please to know that there are
currently two GSM providers in Northern Cyprus that cover most of the region.

of speeds of around 512K.
